New York’s Open Restaurants are a Highly Regulated Free-for-All

It takes seven months for a restaurant to get approved for street seating in New York City and there are a lot of regulations they must follow but it still feels like an anything goes free-for-all of restaurateurs taking back the streets in the best way possible.
The speed at which New York turned its car congested streets into quaint outdoor cafes is astounding and nearly 100 streets in the city now allow cafes and restaurants to spill their seating out past the sidewalk and into the streets, in some cases closing the roads down to vehicles all together.
